The London Economic Region (LER) is experiencing strong population growth, driven mainly by immigration and the arrival of new workers. Francophones represent approximately 2.1% of the population, or more than 11,000 people, with a presence concentrated mainly in Middlesex County and the city of London. This linguistic and cultural diversity contributes to enriching the workforce and regional dynamism.

According to the 2025-2026 local labor market plan, some general labor market trends in London include:

  • The total population of the REL reached nearly 800,000 inhabitants in 2023, with growth of 10.4 % in five years, higher than Ontario (7.1 %) and Canada (6.6 %).
  • Growth relies heavily on migration : in 2022, 91% of the population increase was due to immigration or internal migration.
  • The immigrants represent 23.1 % of the workforce, and the newcomers (less than 5 years in Canada) approximately 2,8 %.
  • The populations racialized represent 17.8 % of the workforce in 2021, with strong growth (+65% in five years).
